Something not working, or a question that isn't answered below? Write to me at support@tailoutgame.com and I'll get back to you.

It's worth checking known issues first, in case I already know about it. When you write, these help me sort it out faster:

Questions

What can I play it on?

Windows and Mac from itch.io first. With the full release, Windows and Mac from Steam, and iPhone, iPad and Mac from the App Store. Play with a controller's analog trigger (you can rebind everything, and it rumbles) or the keyboard. On a phone or tablet, your thumb is the trigger.

How many people can play?

Up to four on one screen, each with a controller. Two people can share an iPhone or iPad, half the screen each. An online room holds up to eight, with four on the track at a time and the rest waiting their turn.

How much does it cost?

Tailout starts out on itch.io, and the base game is free there while I test it with players. Online rooms cost $4.99, and one purchase covers you and three friends. Buying on itch.io also gets you a Steam key when the full game comes out on Steam and the App Store.

Do I need to be online?

No. Racing, the Grand Prix, the track builder, the paint booth and the arcade all work offline. You only need a connection for online rooms and cloud saves.

How do I race my friends online?

One of you opens an online room and shares the code, and everyone else types it in. The room picks the rules: winner stays on, king of the hill or take turns.

On itch.io, online rooms are the $4.99 part. Open the game, go to Unlock online, and paste the download key from your itch.io download page. One key unlocks online for four accounts, so give it to the three friends you race with and they can do the same.

How do I move my basement to another device?

Turn on cloud saves in the game's cloud settings on both devices. On the new one, choose to join, and the game shows a short code. Type it in on the device you already play on. The code only works for a short time.

How do I delete my cloud save?

In the game's cloud settings, choose Delete cloud basement. That deletes your cloud player and everything stored for it. The save on your device stays where it is. You can also email me your player id and I'll delete it for you. The privacy policy has the details.

Someone in a room is causing trouble. What can I do?

Block them, and report their driver name, paint job or track from the room. Reports come to me, and anyone who breaks the rules can be banned from online play.

I've been banned from online play. What now?

If you think I got it wrong, email support@tailoutgame.com with your player id and tell me what happened.

Will new cars and tracks cost extra?

No. Every car, track and feature I add later is free, for everyone who has the game.

Does the game have ads, or track me?

No ads, no ad tracking, and no analytics or crash reporting in the game. The privacy policy lists everything the game does use.

My Mac or PC says the itch.io build isn't safe to open.

The itch.io builds aren't signed by Apple or Microsoft yet. On a Mac, try to open it once, then go to System Settings > Privacy & Security and click Open Anyway. On Windows, click More info, then Run anyway. There's more on the known issues page.
